    Re: Firefox 3 Beta Released

Cheers, slightly different look and already loving the fact that if I view a webpage with lots ot images I can enlarge them along with the text, unlike the old versions where the text changed but not the image leading to a messy page.

However, NONE of the addons I use work especially NOT mouse gestures no.......
Even scroll wheel click for the quick scroll does not work..

Let's hope these get fixed soon then I'll use beta 3.0
    Woohoo now Assistant Manager!

    Re: Firefox 3 Beta Released

Well I've installed and am using the beta as we speak.

My addons, Gmail notifier and adblock plus (Hexus is white listed!) are working as expected.

better platform integration. not something you'd ever really notice on windows, but a huge benefit for mac/linux users

    Re: Firefox 3 Beta Released

also aren't they are ment to fixed the leaks?

one of the main reasons i could never understand the spread of FF (esp on the win) was because it leaked horrifically, with tabbed browsers i've a habbit of keeping the same instance open for days, it would gobble memory.

FF 3.0 they claim to of fixed many leaks.

A quick anti spin translation. The bugs we couldn't be bothered to fix last time, we've addressed. The ones we never bothered to pin down, and the new ones we've made will still be reif. Enjoy!

What i find so funny, is the same lot who harp on endlessly about FF2, are the ones who mistakenly lambast vista for its idle memory useage (like 10 year olds on a playground talking about sex, the technicalilities are barely understood, let alone the purpose).

    Re: Firefox 3 Beta Released

ff3 is meant to have better memory use, though i've not yet tested it

many of the ram issues were due to leaks in the adobe flash nsplugin, not firefox itself (ie didn't suffer since it uses a less buggy activex control instead)

if you don't mind re-starting your browser proccess every so often (as hexpoints out major cultript is the active-x flash control, more flash sites will exchasabate the problem). then just stick with FF2. Or Opera, or IE

    Re: Firefox 3 Beta Released

FF 1.5 was the best imho. Never had any problems with it and I played around with alot of stuff. FF 2.0 is good but I do find it can be flaky now and then for no reason. The additional number of add-ons is what made me change to FF 2.0. If they get 3.0 right with regard to the bugs and memory it will be really good. Unfortunately I think that the trend from 1.5 to 2.0 may continue. Fingers crossed. Until it goes gold I can't be bothered to change.

Which is about the best advice. Opera 7.5x betas abound too but i'm not using them either.

BETA should mean for TESTING only - muddied by people like Google who as far as I can see are ALWAYS in beta..

    Re: Firefox 3 Beta Released

I've personally given up on FF betas, they seem to introduce more probs then they claim to fix, gonna stay with 2.0 for now unless I read good things about the beta.

Although I like what they're doing with FF3 so far it is annoying that pretty much none of the add-ons work at all.

Is always the case with FF betas, takes a bit of time for the developers of the add-ons to catch up I'm afraid.
