This folding SMP client is awful.

So first off, there are no work units to be done, so its sits there with a insaine error message about been assigned to 0.0.0.0. Not nice.

Now, it insists on only running on 4 of the 8 cores.

Are there any config files that can be tweaked to force it too run on 8 cores.

The 0.0.0.0 error is something a lot of people seems to be getting but the problem is at the server end. It'll go away if you give it time.

No idea about the cores. IIRC it's only designed to run on four cores?

it's hard-coded to run 4 MPI processes. you could try writing a wrapper for their mpirun executable which forces 8 threads, but remember parallel code is non-deterministic and therefore results may be discarded (and unrewarded) due to being 'different' from expectations when run on !4 threads

To use all 8 cores you need to run two instances from two seperate install folders. You also have to set the machine ID in the setup if i remember right.

I've read a blog or FAQ entry about why they hard code 4 threads. Can't remember the details though, it think it is to do with beinging able to fully garantee the results of the threads.
