Dmboot.sys?????

hey all

trying to install a clean install of win xp pro. It says it loads the setup files and when it gets near the end, it says:

dmboot.sys is caropped.
press any key to continue.

i do and it restarts.

Any ideas?


Specs:
AMD 64Bit XP3000,
Mobo: Jetway S755Max Mobo,
512Mb DDR333 Generic (ebuyer) ram,
NEC A1300 DVD rw -/+,
60Gb IBM Diskstar 120XP,
Nvidia FX5600 128mb XT

it could either be:

scratched / faulty cd
faulty ram
faulty cd-rom
faulty motherboard (faulty i/o ide controller)

i would try cleaning the cd, then use memtest86 to test your ram, then if you get no problems with your ram, you could try borrowing someone's cd to try, then you could try a different cd-rom...

if none of that fixes it... then i don't know what. but i suspect it'll be one of the top three.

suspected that (as it's generic ebuyer stuff) - i've read a few of the reviews of some of the generic ebuyer ram, and quite a few are not good reviews. www.crucial.com/uk are very good prices
