    Corrupt Registry WinXP

My new PC has 'issues' once again, this time it looks like the registry has become corrupt, no idea how.

When i boot up it almost gets to the windows login screen then briefly flashes up the following windows message 'System Error: Lsass.exe, When trying to update a password the return status indicates that the value provided as the current password is not correct.' And then it promptly BSOD's and reboots, and around we go in circles.

I have looked this up on the windows KB, and it states i need to access the recovery console. So i get the WinXP CD out (which has not had time to collect dust since i last rebuilt the machine) and try and load the recovery console. As soon as the boot from CD process gets to the 'Welcome to Setup' screen the machine BSOD's again.

I have tried a couple of XP cd's, all do the same. SO am i completely stuffed or is there another way?

I would really like to avoid rebuilding the array once again, is there anyway i can recover from this without doing a complete rebuild?

Your help greatly appreciated as always

Have you tried safe mode? If you can get almost as far as the login screen it seems like most of you boot process has gone ok. If you can get into safe mode I'd start disabling startup programs/services out of 'msconfig' and go from there ..

Already tried safe mode, leads to BSOD as before.

Sounds more like a memory problem than a registry one. From what you're saying its still blue screening when booting from CD - at that stage its not even accessing the windows installation.

I'd be tempted to run memtest from one of the various boot disks floating about.

I thought the same, i have run memtest and it completed without errors.

    Any other suggestions?
