Why anyone would use notepad is beyond me.. it's a horrible text editor for doing anything more than very, very, very basic text editing. You'd have thought after all this time MS might have improved it. But never mind! Highly recommend ultraedit (www.ultraedit.com).. I've got it set up really nicely for ASP development and have my HTML 4 and CSS 2 help files to hand.. does the works.. syntax highlighting, search and replace over files... it's got loads of features I'm still exploring. I do use dreamweaver from time to time, it's pretty quick to design tables and such like when you're doing complicated layouts but most of my development is done in ultraedit.

Wrote most of my website in notepad, but changed to Dreamweaver for day-to-day editing. Still use it in Code mode though since I prefer to write the actual code myself.

I learnt HTML in notepad, and used it to program my early sites in it - best way to learn.

Now use Visual InterDev tho, but i basically use it like notepad typing code manually - i just dont trust WYSIWYG editors, for they were forged by lucifer himself.

ps notepad in win2k and poss XP has a goto line function, press CTRL+G

    pps 100 posts! * a woohoo! *

lol, i like notepad 'cause it hasn't got any advanced features such as VIM. It's so simple it's good. Microsoft will probably make a new version of notepad similar to VIM imo. An advanced notepad.
