Hey there, I cant see the option to download Vista sp1 from Microsoft, nor is it in my windows update? Where can I get it from?
It's only ben released on windows update for 64 bit Vista thus far.
^ officially yes. The hack above works for both 32bit and 64.
Thanks for the hack Dangel, i was talking about the official release, anyways, is it mandatory in some way? Do i really need to upgrade? from everywhere ive read it has no major differences so to speak of. So you think I can afford to pass on it?
Well it's offical in the sense it's MS and it is the final build - you'll gain nothing from waiting for WU to deploy it en mass. They've even mistakenly distributed it to some people ;)
IMHO I would install it - systems i've put it on 'feel' slicker as a result and i've suffered no adverse effects either. End of the day it fixes a stack of bugs and that's no bad thing. Eventually it'll be mandatory but not for a while yet.
Hmm, okay, but I was thinking, since I have installed all the updates uptill now from WU, and a service pack has all the previous updates in it, so is it worth it? But since you point out that it has some improvements otherwise as well, Ill give it a shot. Thanks :)
I've heard good things about SP1. Tempted to give Vista another try at some point now.....we'll see :D
In which case they've either closed the hole or reboot and try it again..
Bear in mind with Windows Update it can take a while for things to appear - and also that there are a couple of prereq. installs before the big one.
I haven't used the trick in a while as I can now download the standalone installers orf MSDN (as I have a sub.).
Or try these:
x86: Free - Envoyez vos documents
x64: Free - Envoyez vos documents
Click "Télécharger ce fichier" in both cases.
(links sourced but i'm told the files are digitally signed)
And that was a slip from someone in MS HQ accidently leaning on the big green button. Only for some Home Premium x64 users too I believe. I'm unaware of any Ultimate users being offered it during that green period.
Was still working yesterday fine. :)
I'm installing it on all PCs outside of work that I'm setting up now. No issues at all, of any description, so far.
Used it a few days ago to update a Vista Business laptops with no probs except that it takes an eternity to install.
If you use the hack to get the RC, you'll need to uninstall that before you can install the RTM version. You also can't install IE8 Beta 1 on the RC.Quote:

This close to the release, I'd say wait :)
I used the standalone package and installed perfectly, took like 30mins though and several reboots!
Vista 32 Ultimate btw, I got it off a torrent at fast speed!
It downloading right now, the suggestions of rebooting sorted out the problem, only first appeared a few hours ago.
