    Question stupid fedora

so its saying basically in short no matter what option i choose bar formatting the entire drive that there isn't enough space for / /boot etc etc... theres 30gb+ :|
    ... so yeah:|
i'm thinking of either trying to gpart live cd and split the windows partition to a unpartitioned 20gb or just go with another distro...
any suggestions on what to do or go with if not?

Good riddance. Wish I'd done it about a year ago.

There's 30Gb partitioned how? I've never had any issues with the Fedora install personally, but you need (as usual) to provide more info.

If you said what "it" is - what you are trying to achieve, what error messages you are getting, where you are getting them etc, there might be a failnt chance of you getting some help. (If that is what you want, rather than a pointless rant)

Unfortunately a recent kryptonite meteor shower has robbed me of any mind reading powers.

    Re: stupid fedora

basically.on ubuntu for example you can simply partition free space in your ntfs partition to make the required linux ones ie swap /home etc... and fedora has this option yet whenever i choose either of the ways of doing it ie delete previous linux partitions and create a new one/manually edit partition table etc it keeps telling me i haven't got enough free space:S when i have 30gb to partition off.makes no sense seeing as it has the option to use free space remaining on the primary partition...

    Re: stupid fedora

From Fedora 6, the install program chooses to use LVM as the default partitioning system Nothing wrong with that, although configuring it manually during the install isn't exactly intuitive. One consequence of using LVM is that the boot partition MUST be outside the LVM - this is because the drivers for the LVM need to be loaded from the initrd before the LVM can be accessed - and the only way to do that is to boot from a normal partition.

    There are 3 ways ahead.

The simplest (if you don't want to used logical volumes, is to create the partitions manually in your 30Gb space, using Gparted, as you suggest. You need about 100Mb for /boot, about 1Gb for the swapfile (don't bother about doubling the amount of RAM, if you have 1Gb of ram, 2Gb swapfile is very unlikely to be used. I would also recommend that yopu create a separate partition for /home.

You need about 10Gb for /.

Once you have created the partitions, run the install program and manually select the partitions yiou wnat to use.

Method 2 is to persevere with the manually partitioning at install time - it can be done, but it is frustrating until you get the hang of it.

Option 3 is to just let it do its thing and ctreate the LVM as it sees fit - although it sounds as if that is where you have been having problems.

You could compromise and manually configure /boot and swap, and use lvm for the main file systems. It is very versatile - but initially frustrating.

    Re: stupid fedora

no thats the point aside from doing it myself any of the manual/automatic options it provides for partitioning run up that error.i'm not very impressed seeing as core 4 never had this problem on a lol 30gb hdd! shame... but yeah i think gparted is the way i intended to do it anyway... just wondered if anyone else had experienced this error. google throws up loads of coincidences.
