    Spybot 1.5 - what's going on?

I used to like Spybot, ok the interface was always clunky, but still i used it and lots of people around the web rated it.
Since 1.5 though, what the hell has been going on with the update procedure?
    Load it. Wait.
    Click on update. Wait.
    Select update location.
    Choose what updates you want.
Wait whilst it downloads all the new sigs etc.
It'll then update to the latest kernel / core software engine thingy.
Then it asks me if i want to install the new version, compete with full 'Install' or 'cancel' buttons, meanwhile the previous version is still running in the background, so i have to cancel the old version.
It'll then download a whole new 9 meg sig update, just in case.
Then ANOTHER 2 meg update (cant remember what).
Then it asks me to reboot.

    WTF???

With Adaware, you can just update and then scan.

Spybot is walking a dangerous line, might be nearing the 'uninstall' department pretty soon.

I've never had that problem. S&D updates simply and quickly here.

    My process:

    Launch S&D 1.5 - fully loads in 1-2 seconds.
Search for updates - updater window loads instantly with the fastest server pre-selected so I just click continue.
It shows the updates - I'm happy with defaults so click download.
I click exit after it's updated, and I'm good to go.

I've never had any problems updating kernels and so on.

    Re: Spybot 1.5 - what's going on?

v1.5 was faulty; v1.52 is OK.

I've just checked (including Beta updates - 3 little ones) and the whole process took ~1min.

Choose the right server as some are v. slow. The SaferNetworking Europe ones are good.

Must of been a large update. However I still recommend and use Spybot.

    Re: Spybot 1.5 - what's going on?

I have found good sources to update your spybot since a lot of people are indeed complaining about updating there spybot. I do hope this could help.

    The home of Spybot-S&D!
In section 4 you'll see how to select a download location nearest to you.
If this sounds too difficult please try to download the updates manually:

Here is the direct download link:

Just download and run that file - it is self-installing.

    Re: Spybot 1.5 - what's going on?

I used to use Spybot for my AS software but a few months ago stopped using it, partially because of the reasons you've stated. I really don't know what the best alternatives are but I'm now using AVG AS.
