    Unable to Install Vista SP1

When I try to install SP1 I get a bluescreen when windows finishes installing stage 3 and boots up. It appears just as the desktop loads. I am using vista Ultimate with all updates apart from sp1 installed. The spec of my computer isn't an issue. I have all latest drivers installed.

Any help in getting the SP1 installed would be much appreciated

Re: Unable to Install Vista SP1

I've had a similar problem; it goes all the way to Stage 3 or 3 to 100%, then a few minutes later says the SP could not be installed and goes and undoes all the changes. It'll then reboot after several minutes, undo more changes, and then continue booting as normal (several minutes later). I've tried four times. And I've tried it from my own admin account and the hidden uber-admin account; no dice.

Re: Unable to Install Vista SP1

Because Vista SP1 probably isnt compatible with some of your hardware drivers currently installed.
Its in all the installation notes.

Its 10000 times better to wait and see what Windows Update offers you.

Friend was having a similar issue. Turned out to be due to using a hacked copy

No idea if he solved it, just food for thought in case that's what you're doing.

Re: Unable to Install Vista SP1

I tried to install it today on my D630 with Vista business and it refused with an error code of which seems to be quite a generic one... so it will have to wait a bit longer

Re: Unable to Install Vista SP1

Installed fine on my pc. Thing is, i never ever install windows updates (Never have in years with no problems at all). I always install SP1 etc when that comes out though.

Maybe you could try a fresh install of Vista and then install SP1? Could be one of the MS updates is having issues with some part of SP1.

I doubt it is a hardware driver that is causing the problem.

The release note clearly state that Windows Update will administer which updates are required as there is a huge number of people that will get software conflict if SP1 is installed due to SP1 and drivers not playing nicely.

Still doubt it is a hardware driver though. A good few of my mates have various hardware and all went fine for them.
