Media/Video playing apps - which let you scan FFWD and RWD with arrow keys?

I love that winamp feature where you can scan through video and audio files using the left right arrow keys, i hear people praising VLC all the time but i use winamp simply because of this feature. Can this be done with VLC or any other superior video player?

VLC and zoom are both very good players and will both allow you to do that. Zoom is my preferred player for most video files (ogm, mkv etc) whereas VLC is great for playing broken files and can also play DVD iso files. Theyre both free, so just go ahead and download both of em.

    KMPlayer does it as standard.

VLC as stated - seems to be the best self contained player about.

Just installed the latest VLC, and went to advanced settings where the features *appear* to be there, but even though i set the volume to up/down and the short jumps to left & right (without ctrl, shift or alt), saved the settings, tested it but it doesnt work, just doesnt want to do it

its also a bit sketchy and skipping through the file in general, gives that wierd invert effect for a few seconds before finally synching it back up, by which time the short jump is a bit useless, do i need a codec pack or something?

No, VLC is a poor player because although it plays everything, it does it via a mish mash of dodgy codecs which result in poor quality video and audio and non-smooth playback.

    What do you use?

i dont know what codec pack i used to use, but paired up with winamp it used to play everything but RM and quicktime perfectly, and the playlist on winamp is easy to use too.

Yeah, VLC can be a bit clunky, but its worth having just because it will play absolutely anything. As I said before Zoom is my preferred player, its simple, has an easy playlist function and will fast forward through videos without any fuss.

I use K-lite Codec pack which includes media player classic.

So far it has played everything I have asked it to including DVD & matrosky files with no problems

VLC does not use windows codecs - all media capabilities of the player are statically compiled in
