"Run-time error '429': ActiveX component can't create object" error

    Hi guys,

Everytime I try and run a program called word statements which is made by viztopia I am getting this error:

    "Run-time error '429':

    ActiveX component can't create object"

Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

I have tried the following to fix it and after all of my effort I would rather not have to formatt!

    System restore.
    Run all updates.
Reset all ie settings to defult
    Unistalled and reinstalled Word Statements
Run a detect and repair on office and reinstalled and uninstalled office incase it was related.
Check that all of the users right are correct which they are.
    Run a Spybot.

Please help me, it is driving me up the wall!

    Brent

Re: "Run-time error '429': ActiveX component can't create object" error

this is an error because a component of the program (more precisly an 'Active-X component') can't be created, a 429 normally means that the component isn't installed.

Has this program ever worked OK?

I have to say I do not know. It is before my time. I am trying to fix it for someone else.

It seems that even if I uninstall and reinstall it, it still does not work which is what has led me to believe that it was a part of the windows set up which is missing or corrupt?

Depends, could be something like the VB runtimes.

Could be something that ships with office.

(these are the two most common, 'common' libraries, that is a shared library accross many apps).

It could also be that something overwrote the entry in the registry, this prevents the un-installer from un-installing it cleanly, the installer won't overwrite the value either because something exists, this is a common problem with COM/ActiveX.

so, first port of call would be:

Download details: Visual Basic 6.0 Service Pack 5: Run-Time Redistribution Pack (vbrun60sp5.exe)
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)

All fixed. I called there support and they sent me a file called vconnect which created an sql driver and after that it just worked!

Can't believe spent about 7 hours on something which ended up aking me 2 minutes!

yup, active-x whilst one of the only options for the time it came out (was ahead of anythign else) had lots of errors, this been a classic linking error. Dosen't even say what the dependancy is. Leaving you only to guess.

Been able to contact the vendor is always the best bet for these things.

Currently fixing the same error in some of our legacy code! Always worth checking DAO and MDAC!

Brenton do you have a copy of the vconnect utility that you can share?
