2 BSOD's!!

Hey guys, Have been running my current rig since just before xmas. However i got two BSOD's today out of nowhere and its the first time ive had any!!

I didnt get to see the code as it just went blue then automatically restarted instantly.

Any ideas whats causing this? I cant imagine its heat because temps being are usually fairly low. The graphics card would get hot but its stock cooled and not overclocked. The Cpu and memory are overclocked but memory is still well under its limits and the cpu is only overclocked to 3.2 and runs quite cool even under load.

Any ideas?

What OS are you using?

You know, sometimes it just seems like computers have bad days sometimes for no reason. Example: last Thursday my sound card (an X-Fi XtremeGamer) started messing up. What happened was I switched audio modes during playback (oops). Usually (although its not recommended to do so), it doesn't hurt it, but after that time, playback in Entertainment Mode was totally vaped. It was heavily distorted, etc. Game mode still worked great. And the problem only occured in XP (which i was using at the time), not Vista. I was snding E-maisl back and forth with Creative all weekend! Suddenly today, it's working perfectly. I did nothing i ndays to try and fix it (nothing since Saturday, anyways). However yesterday I reformatted Vista and re-installed it. Was it related? I doubt it, but it was interesting.

Some days stuff just seems to break. If it stops, no real worries, I suppose (though you might run MemTest and such to be sure). If it continues, then you might have a problem.

Ty mate. Im using Xp Pro with Service Pack 2. Ill try memtest tonight. I hope it was just a one off!

O and EDIT: ive just run spybot search and destroy and for the first time ever it has told me i have no problems.

I don't beleive it lol. There is always something?!

As far as i am aware all my drivers are up to date and non have been changed in a few weeks so i don't know why this problem is just starting today.

Ok now another problem. I went up to the town there a shut the pc off. Swithed it of normally and the way your meant to.

Now when ive come back to turn it on the monitor is receiving no signal. Its just sitting on standby.

What the feck is going on with this dam thing? The rest of the computer is running or at least it looks like it is...

ive removed gcard and memory and gave them a blow. Have checked all wires etc but still no luck.

I havent got a spare gcard lying about ether

You know...mine was doing similar strange things the other day as well after installing a new driver (my video driver, actually), but after a couple of crashes and then the device saying it can't start, it went away and the device works fine now.

Have you updated any drivers lately? I know you said you haven't, but I'm mainly asking whether Windows Update might have done it. Is everything running as expected in Device Manager (as in, everything is working properly, and nothing has any errors, yellow explanation marks, etc.)?

If you get video signal back, it might not be a bad idea to uninstall your video drivers and reinstall the newest version (even if you already are using them). Video drivers tend to be the most likely culprit of full system crashes in my experience. Granted these would be steps to take if you get signal back to your monitor. Sounds to me like either a bad driver or a dead(?) video card...I highly doubt all your memory would have died at once....

However, there's likely people around here who know more than me and can more accurately diagnose the problem.

Ive removed one of the crucial sticks and it is working so im assuming that one of my ram sticks is bust? It doesnt work when both or this one is on its own. The other stick seems to be fine though.

Well, sounds like thats your problem. I don't know why I was thinking it would take *all* your sticks dying to prevent things from working. >.< I've been doing too many repairs lately...

Good to hear your problem's been sorted out. Still, I'd reinstall your vid drivers with the newest version (or if you have the newest, just re-install the video driver. Best way to do it is:

Remove the driver
Reboot into safe mode, and use something like Driver Cleaner to finish removing your video driver.
Reboot, and reinstall video driver.
