Whats it about pleae?
//Im not downloading RP just to play this file, + i hate real player. :)
A demo of what a next-gen desktop might look like. All 3D, with clever feature's, like being able to turn a web-page around, on the screen, and type a few notes on the back of it.
Looks the dogs danglies, to be honest. Can't wait.
After reading what Vaul said ive have since watched the clip and its pretty impressive :) Is this a warning shot to MS that Sun wants take over the desktop...maybe?
Well it certainly ups the bar of what is expected from a desktop, I have to say I really feel Microsoft have to respond once this sun project comes to the market, I hope they use longhorn to respond, I mean lets face it it's not as though they haven't got the time between now and release next century;)
Longhorns display system uses direct x to render all the gfx windows in full 3d - so what Sun done there is totally possible to match in longhorn, and could possibly be actually what ms intends to do with it. I suppose it all depends how fast gfx cards get by the time Longhorn is due for release as to exacly how "3d" the desktop will go.
Looks like intersting times are ahead of us in the next 5 years peeps! :D
Butuz
note that apple already have a desktop running in opengl - minimise a playing video and the window itself will get "sucked" into the dock, whilst still playing fine.
Yer but it offers nothing useful, except fancy effects. What Sun were showing there was generally useful (notes on the back of windows, rotating the whole lot around etc).
apple's Expose system can be considered useful.
looked a bit gimmicky to me, you'll never have a really useful 3d desktop until you can get a proper 3d display..
i agree with above. although an extremely interesting idea when it comes to practicality it doesnt add a whole lot apart from making it look a helluva lot nicer and being able to do more fancy things. Im interested to see where this goes tho...
