    Web Browsers à la carte

A little thread for you to comment on your web browser of choice & argue its case. I thought this might be fun. Right, I'll start:

    MyIE2

I've been a big fan of CrazyBrowser for a long time (for those who don't know, CrazyBrowser gives the addition of Tabs to IE). Tabbed browsing is a great idea, and props to the Opera crew for coming up with it - unfortunately, like it or not, Internet Explorer is the industry standard (with many sites IE-only). Hence tabbed IE solutions offer most of the benefits of a browser like Opera or Mozilla but none of the bad points.

MyIE2, like CrazyBrowser, is a tabbed IE. However, unlike CrazyBrowser, it's far faster, supports skins, mouse gestures, has a plugin architecture (with many including the Flash save plugin or the Allow Right Click plugin which are useful for day-to-day browsing).

Basically, it offers the best of all worlds.

CrazyBrowser hasn't been updated for a year, and there's no point trying when they have tom compete with this masterpiece.

The basic, fast Internet Explorer (Smooth scrolling disabled and image resizing disabled so it's quicker), plus the brilliant Google Toolbar with it's built in pop-up blocker. Does the job for me, as tabbed browsing doesn't really do much for me.

Safari- ITs the quickest browser you will find for mac, it has built in pop up blocker autofill forms and built in google search. Oh, and tabbed browsing. Pretty obvious why Microsoft have given up developing IE for mac

My first venture into the tabbed browser market was actually quite recently (after using IE for years and only ever testing NetScape and Mozilla which I despised), when I came across a link to iRider - http://www.irider.com

iRider isn't free ($30) but it's VERY fast and the "pinned" page concept is nice, but there were a couple of shortcomings that stopped me paying for it (auto-completion of typed URLs, a drag/drop facility FROM the browser to create a .URL file and inability to edit the description of pinned pages).

I played with the 20-day trial and read about a number of other tabbed browsers, recently I found MyIE2 - http://www.myie2.com - and it's my best friend now

For ad/popup blocking I always use a separate program which acts as a proxy, AdSubtract - http://www.adsubtract.com - it prevents me having to worry about each program I use having its own ad filtering code.

I much prefer the idea of front-ending the IE rendering engine to avoid compatibility issues with certain pages and maintaining NTLM support for our proxy server at work

    Mozilla now supports NTLM authentication.

    Mozilla now supports NTLM authentication.
Unfortunately it's possibly the ugliest browser I've ever seen.
Took me back to the days of Mosaic on the mainframe when I was at university 10 years ago!

Maybe I've been spoiled by the eye candy, but since Windows XP was released a lot of commercial vendors have tried to improve their UIs, and now they are streets ahead of what they were.
I also now rate programs by what their installer looks like, the options for what icons/associations/folders it creates, and if it tidies itself up 100% on uninstall.

Mozilla lasted as long as it took me to install, run twice and uninstall again I think.

Firebird is the best browser on the planet at the moment IMHO.

Tabbed Browsing, pop-up blocking, advert blocking, flash blocking, STANDARDS BASED rendering based on Gecko, search bar built in (customisable to any search engine) pluggable extensions (with lots of very useful extensions in the current library), small, fast and totally free...Available on Windows, Linux and OSX.

    Talking Opera!

I still worship my registered version of opera, after purchasing while on dialup i found it a god send for the speed, (ie was slugish) and as im now on broadband it rocks even more

    Skinnable,
    free version available,
    with java,
    without java,
    tabbed browsing,
    excellent page zoom,
    small install,
    not greedy with resources,
    need i say more

i used too use opera as it has the best features but it dont like my new mouse (razer boomsang) and often crashes when i use the scroll wheel and not all sites like it
i used ie often instead depending on the site, yesterday i found avant browser which seems to beat all, though it doesnt have a shiny download manager like opera which is its only bad point.
also opera is the only browser that can acctually zoom properly, though i dont know bout firebird /mozilla but they are crap anyway ... AOL's browser is less ugleh than them!
