Tried safe mode? (keep pressing F8 when starting up and choose it from the list)

    You did backup, right?

    Re: XP problem booting

Its like a BSOD for a second at the Windows XP loading screen, then restarts. Also, my old XP system did the same thing. Im not sure what this is.. its like a 'bug'?

I managed to get onto desktop by booting into 'safe mode with command prompt', typing in:

    chkdsk or chkdsk /f

After this had fully performed, I closed the command prompt, pressed Ctrl Alt & Del, File > New Task: explorer.exe

This gave me windows explorer to use in safe mode, uninstalled things Id just put on, restarted and was ok. Reboot again and back to square one :/

I think Im going to back essentials up and do a clean install. But Im affraid if I do that, what if, while re-installing XP from scrach, the problem occurs again and I cant even get an OS on the thing??

    Use XP's restore/rollback feature?
