The Register article from August 2003 says "Q3 2004"
In October they said "vaguely for first half 2004"
BetaNews in Novermber 2003 said "by the third quarter of 2004"
BetaNews is probably the best place to keep an eye on for real info, but they have nothing since December 12th when they said the beta was rumoured to be going out to testers the following week...

it's the second service pack, the one after service pack 1
assorted security fixes, usability updates, sofwtare updates, etc. crucially it features a new version of IE, a much enhanced firewall, and a big chunk of system files recompiled with the latest tools to avoid memory leaks & buffer overflows
So does that mean that Service pack 1 (for XP) & Service pack 1A (also for XP) are two different updates ??

it was a legal requirement that they remove their version of the java virtual machine. you can get the sun jvm from java.sun.com
i'm on the Service pack 2 beta program, we finally got it early jan
Its shaping up to be a nice updatea few program incompatabilities but ive reported them so they should be fixed. XP firewall has been upgraded - it now actaully works! And IE comes with a built in popup blocker. There the only real changes i can see so far
i'm waiting for my confirmation from beta.microsoft.com - i'm on the Windows Update 5 beta, but i can't actually USE that without SP2
