    Question cd copying program?

Well i hate having too wait for the dvd drive too load games and its annoying as its loud, any know of some software too copy the disk image onto the hard drive, i got daemon tools already for mounting it.
Games that i would be sticking on hard drive would be bf2142/crysis/witcher/company of heros.

and please no discussing/mentioning illegal things as this part is legal.

MagicISO will rip an ISO image that you can use straight away. I'm not sure if the trial version lets you rip more than 1 or if it only lets you rip but you should try it.

technically its not legal, as you have to bypass the copy protection the copy an image to the hdd, but noone would do you for it, because logically it should be legal. i think saracen mentioned that they were looking at altering the law.

it goes the same as ripping songs to put on an mp3 player, thats technically illegal too.
so technically this post IS discussing illogical illegality but of course your not going to be arrested for it because some companys push software to rip songs to your mp3 player. technically WMP is illegal

how long till someone turns up and proves me wrong

getting back to the subject: i recommend imgburn (i'm sure that can create iso's from a disc, if not ill go have a hunt on my computer)

thats very true xD, its just a different view on it is it not? its similar too mmorpg private servers, some places are legal and some are not(glad i dont play mmorpg's any more xD). Will try these programs out in a mo.

virtual drive isnt what im looking for, daemon tools does the same but i cant create the image only mount it.

    Re: cd copying program?

ISO images (i.e. iso9660 disk images) cannot represent sufficient data to convince copy protection from this millennium that all is well. no-cd cracks would still be required. a format with significant subcode rendering is required, such as MDS. for that, consider tools like alcohol 120%

there are addons for daemontools such as the addon to circumvent securom and other copy protection systems.

but of course that is illegal and you shouldn't do it

I personally use LCIsoCreator (it's free, not *cough* free like Alcohol etc) if I want to rip an iso from a disc. As Hex points out this won't get you around the copy protection though.

Erm, no. Not in the UK it isn't. It's legal to create a backup if you're a legit user, but that's as far as legal copying goes, unless the material is either in the public domain, or unless you either own the copyright, have permission from whoever does or fall into one of the statutory exemptions - which your intended use does not.

This thread is running dangerously close to the territory where it'll get deleted. If it goes onto territory like bypassing Securom, expect it to vanish. We don't want to rain on your parade folks, so please don't go there.

Yeah, they are, but from what I remember (and without looking it up) that wasn't one of the changes.

There is a government-sponsored review of the whole field of IP rights and legislation. In most areas, the recommendations were to tighten up control and improve the power of rights holders. But it did cover the spectrum, including design rights, patents, trademarks and so forth. One of the relatively few areas where a loosening was advocated was in personal "fair use" copyright provisions, which was aiming at allowing things like format-shifting your CDs (for instance) onto your MP3 player. It's doubtful whether that would override the quite separate provisions about bypassing copy protection, which is not the same issue as whether making a copy of rights-protected material is legal or not.

To put that another way, there's two issues :-

    1) Is the material protected by copyright? If so, there are occasions when it's permissible to copy it.

    2) Is it protected by copy-protection measures?

The law, so far, certainly appears to be contradictory in that it appears to say that even where you might have legal justification for copying it, you can't bypass copy protection measures to do so.

In other words, the state of the legislation is a right dogs dinner.

    Re: cd copying program?

yeh its very complicated and depends how you look at it. It would be for backing up but it failed anyways, tried bf2142 and used daemon tools to fix *somthing* but wouldnt boot, will try the others but if not ill give up.
