I've recently been caught by the re-activation after SP1 install bug, which was fine, but now there's a watermark in the bottom right corner saying 'This copy of Windows is not Genuine'. How do I get rid of it?

Have you tried re-activating your copy of Vista?? If it's complaining you should have some mechanism to reactivate by phone.
Unless of you course you're running a dodgy copy...

This is bunny and friends. He is fed up waiting for everyone to help him out, and decided to help himself instead!
if you're running a dodgy dodgy copy then get a *proper* version![]()
Try typing this into a Command Prompt:
slmgr.vbs -rearm
It was a genuine installation on a 2-week old laptop my mate had bought for his wife. I did the whole ringing up to re-authorise thing which worked fine, but even though it said it was genuine in the 'Computer' bit, there was still this watermark at the bottom right.
Embarrassingly, a reboot got rid of it...![]()
Negative: the "reboot and try again" while often fixing something is an incredibly shoddy first step and will very rarely help when attempting any form of root cause analysis. In this particular case I'd guess a restart of explorer.exe would also have fixed it (which obviously also happens when you reboot), but I guess we'll never know.
