    Linux Won't Boot

    hey guys,
I just installed fedora 8 because i really wanna start using linux. I installed it to a partition on my second hard drive, the first partition has vista and another hard drive has xp. After install it rebooted and the screen went to the vista bootloader with the options for vista or xp as it usually does. No grub. So then i went into vista and edited the bootloader to have fedora as an option and selected the partition the correct partition to boot from. Now wen i restart and select fedora it goes to that partition and i have a message saying something like boot part, unable to boot from harddisk, insert system disk and press enter. It seems that fedora created two partitions from the one that was free. One is 192mb and comes up as linux native and the other is the rest of the partition. i have tried to boot from both partitions with the same message occuring. Anyhelp?

    Re: Linux Won't Boot

the windows boot loader menu you are getting cannot be used to boot linux

The fedora install should have put grub (boot loader) onto your primary master hard disks boot sector, unless you told it not to or to install the boot loader else where.

there are long ways to go about fixing this, but as you've installed fedora and not done a thing with it I'd suggest you re-install it and pay attention to what it asks you/what it's doing when it asks you about the Grub (the boot loader) placement.
    It is Inevitable.....

especially be careful of touching the BIOS - changing the boot order or somesuch during install can and will break dual booting badly.
