SETI will do doubt have more people doing it. Does not mean it's any better than UD although there do seem to be a lot more programmes/scripts wrote for SETI than UD.
Been doing UD for quite a while now, just seems like a better cause to me.
yeah same here mate. I think UD is far more likely to have an impact on the world etc that SETI is ever likely too. Although I must admit SETI is "cooler" and somewhat more appealing. Do like the pretty pictures in UD tho' hehe
Steve
I prefer to do Seti as it is purely charitable and there is no company behind it earning money on my cpu cycles as there is with UD.
But then again, how many CPU cycles worldwide has SETI used and found nothing?
Rather they are donated by me for a good cause and no one profits than that I donate them and someone makes money on it, space is a big place and the emprical data from seti will possibly only make sense when they have lots and lots and lots of it. Has no good come from the seti project?? I mean they have not found any aliens but surely they have discovered an awful lot about radio waves from space in the meantime and one would assume that some good has come from it in the research field. What has UD found so far?
Erm it has actually identified a number of very likely protein strings which have showed promise for future research in the cancer field. The project has now moved onto phase 2 where these key proteins are then more rigourously examined to try and determine what it is about them that will help cure cancer. This was very big news about a year ago and made it onto all the national news programs.Quote:

Have been running UD for two and three quarter years. They have had results. If you choose the 'Cancer Research Only' option, nobody's making any money out of you. If you don't choose that option, you get random WU's, such as smallpox research, which are used for profit.
My stats atm: 6,092 results (WU's) 975,624 points and 5 years, 344 days contributed.
I figure part of my electric bill is my contribution to charity. Cancer is something that could affect anybody, I feel comfortable aiding with the research. Folding@Home is good as well.
As for SETI, as fascinating as there being other life in The Universe may be, I personally can't see it as worthwhile. After all, we may inadvertently discover some unfriendly buggers. But somebody did point out to me once that if we found the right aliens, maybe they'd have a cure for Cancer for us, so who knows?
just joined hexus UD team and installed it on my 2 rig's.
:)
Nice to have you aboard G4Z :D
What spec are ya rigs m8?
Umm, why does UD not work on an offline machine? And why do it restart the work you've done when you go back online?
Yesterday I was at about 4%, today I'm back to 0% after just going back online.
it works for me when I'm off line Big_Al. Not sure what can be wrong with your install...
Steve
Currently at a rather poor 50 results in UD...
Big Al, UD should run fine when you are offline, I have never had any problems running it offline. Try reinstalling the client to see if that makes a difference.
