I don't think there is any need to go for a super slim distro unless disc space is also very short. I think crazyfool would be able to run a mainstream distro such a debian or ubuntu quite easily so long as he has at least 10Gb of disc space and keeps the eye candy to a minimum.
I would suggest the the xubuntu distro which has the mainstream ubuntu internals, but uses the Xfce window manager to reduce system load.

For Xubuntu:
Get Xubuntu | Xubuntu.orgMinimum system requirements
To run the Desktop CD (LiveCD + Install CD), you need 128 MB RAM to run or 192 MB RAM to install. The Alternate Install CD only requires you to have 64 MB RAM.
The Alt version is a bit of a ball ache as it's all text based and lots of pressing 'Enter', but it does work.

Damn Small Linux isn't bad at all, and if you install it then you have a nice small base to work from with plenty of packages to add.
thanks for the feedback... i'm only not adding ram because the computer is an old and pretty useless emcahines model... the ram it takes i'm not comletely sure of but it seems older ram is more expensive than ddr2 800mhz so its not really worth it... I only need it for firefox, thunderbird and a word processor... thats it

archlinux looks kinda complicated... i need something that is a simple installation process and unlike damn small linux a nicer interface as this is not for me but for someone who can just about turn on a computer...
