IE opening Office files in IE rather than the correct Office application

If that title doesn't make sence, here is Microsoft's fix for the problem:

How to configure Internet Explorer to open Office documents in the appropriate Office program instead of in Internet Explorer

Now, at home this works fine, don't need to change any options. However, at work, using IE6 and Excel 2003 it opens up CSV files linked in IE in the same IE window rather than offering the choice to ooen or download them. I went through the options in the link above and the option "Browse in same window" is unticked and greyed out.

Now the registry option isn't viable, I need to advise others to do this, and not all with have Admin rights on their PC, so anyone have any clues what to do?

BTW, I've also checked IE and Excel's options but can't find anything in there either.

If you are admin on the network push the change out to their registries.

Thats the proper way to fix it imo

Re: IE opening Office files in IE rather than the correct Office application

Thanks TiG, but I don't work in a corporate IT dept. I work for an outsourced helpdesk and one of our clients uses an application in which they sometimes need to download .csv files from IE, but on some PC's it doesn't download them and the option (as shows in the MS link above) is greyed out.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this please?

talk to the IT admin and ask him to open it up for you?

change the default program for .csv files to whatever is meant to open em (excel i would guess)?

Re: IE opening Office files in IE rather than the correct Office application

I have Admin rights on these PC's, but it's still not showing the option.

Also, the default program is already set to Excel, I believe Excel claims those extensions when it is installed.

Re: IE opening Office files in IE rather than the correct Office application

Still having this issue, anyone got any ideas?

As said in my OP, the option "Browse in same window" is not ticked and grayed out, unlike the MS article above which suggests you need to untick it.
