    ISO Mounting for dummies

I'm looking for an insanely simple application to mount an ISO file with in Windows XP. At the moment we're using Microsoft's Virtual CD control panel, but ideally, what we could do with having is a simple executable file that will automatically (and with as little prompting as possible) map an ISO file to a drive letter if someone double clicks on it. We don't want end users being confused with different options, just a simple clickety-click-click and they're done.

    Any ideas?

    daemon tools

    - THE DAEMONS HOME

+ awxDTools from the addons section:

    - THE DAEMONS HOME

    Might work.

    There's scripting support available too.

I'll second Daemon Tools - great little product that's never let me down.
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

Hmmm... looks like Daemon Tools includes "optional" adware, so it's definitely not going to be suitable for end users. Shame, as it looks quite good.

    Re: ISO Mounting for dummies

I`ve used Daemon tools for a long time and like it. i`ve never noticed the ad ware before. The problem is though you have to actually mount the disc yourself I dont think it can be done automatically.

Yeah - I'm not going to install it though, even if the adware is 'optional'. A few people do report isses, so I'm not going to risk it (even if it is PEBCAK)

It's not "optional", it's optional. If you don't tick the box it doesn't get installed - there's no hidden meaning

You trust the opinion of drunks?

I'll admit to never trying the free version (52%) but the full version was pretty useful - allowing you to burn the images too.

    Re: ISO Mounting for dummies

No idea about the others, but if you do get convinced of Daemon Tools (we use it at work, though I install it on the image so as not to need configuring on each PC) you can use little batch files (with the appropriate shortcuts/shortcut keys all dressed up as necessary) to mount images, totally invisible to the user. You just need to untick the 'secure mode' option or it will give them a prompt to confirm when unmounting.

I don't use the latest refreshed version though - had a few issues with it not retaining mounted images after a reboot - I use version 4.09, which has been flawless here.

Whatever you end up with, you're going to have to go around and configure it at some point I suspect, or give detailed instructions for the user to do it if they have admin rights. They're not simple software solutions - they require fake driver buses and such to be installed (obviously the installer does that for you though). You'll not get a plain .exe which you can copy to their machine and have it launch images without having it installed first.
