I blew away my Windows XP SP3 install on my laptop. I figured I don't use anything really that can't be open source, and I don't game on it. So I stuck on Ubuntu 8.04 x64 edition. 108 updates after a fresh install. Thats more than Windows SP2 Slipstream install!
It managed to find my drivers, although complained about my wireless needing flashing or something, so it did and it works. Firefox is version 3b5 which means the majority of extensions I use aren't compatible. I'll have to see about installing 2.0.0.14, but it doesn't matter too much now. After a reboot my X screen was blank, although the lappy booted. I rebooted and got to the recovery menu. Did a "Fix X" and continued to boot, and the screen came back.
Connecting to my Windows Server shares is straightforward, although I connect to it, it moans its not mounted, but then I can go into it anyway!
So it works. Mostly. There you have it. I'm also happy not many viruses will be downloaded!
