    internet security

ow man, it all happens at once! now i need to renew my license.

i'm using kaspersky internet security. is there anything better out there currently?

i'm fairly sure kaspersky slows down some of my downloads, but by how much i have no idea!

is there a internet security suite, that has a good firewall, anti-virus et al and doesnt restrict downloads (ie ease of opening ports etc)

It's what I use, and I'm pretty happy with it

What makes you think this? What protocol are you using to download?

Any internet security suite is going to carry a certain overhead for on-access file scanning etc, but I personally find KIS to be reasonably lightweight.

    Lightbulb Re: internet security

I use NOD32 and various anti-spyware programs meself, but Kaspersky IS is meant to be very good, so if you've been happy with it up 'til now, it would be worth renewing.

Else try one or other of the many FREE AV programs available (AVG, Avast!, Avira AntiVir etc), and a couple of different free anti-spyware programs (Ad-Aware 2008, Spybot S&D, Spyware Terminator etc).

    Re: internet security

I use Nod32 and i find it very lightweight (only 3,160 kb RAM used by it now). It updates often and managed to find a few viruses that 2 years of Norton managed to overlook. but, if you are already used to kaspersky, and are fine with it, it makes sense to renew it. however, it may be worth giving nod32 (or ESET smart security as it is called now) a trial.

just remember only the paid versions of avira have the adware and spyware detection.
so the free version wont have the same detection rate as shown on av comparitives.
if your machine gets infected by malware avira is useless at . for free antivirus i reccomend avast. the detection rate of the home version is the same as the professional version.. the home versioon is free. avast! antivirus - high security and protection from malware with anti-spyware and anti-rootkit software built in
for antispyware use SUPERAntiSpyware.com - AntiAdware, AntiSpyware, AntiMalware!
for paid i reccomend eiether drweb or kaspersky.
