Anyone know of a (if possible, free), standalone executable, software auditing tool?
I would like to temporarily add it to the logon script for our domain so I can harvest machine information.

have a look at the demo's of Hyena or Dameware ( not the remote controll client )
if you have an SMS infrastructre , that will also do it.

Ta for the suggestions! In the end I found a freeware solution that does exactly what I need it to called AIDA32, but thanks anyway
How did you find this tool? Im just about to take over a 100+ pc network where theres no audit information of any type and would like to run a tool like this.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

1) I downloaded the network edition.
2) I installed it on my machine and then copied the whole folder to a public sector of the network.
3) I created a custom report that holds only the Installed Software section. I called it installed.rpf
4) I intend to have the following in the global logon.bat script on the main server for a week, so all machines will run it at least once..
X:\AIDA32\aida32.exe /R x:\aida32\reports\$hostname /custom x:\aida32\installed.rpf /text /silent
this will generate a report using the hostname of the PC it was run from, based on the custom template I made, in text format and silently, so the user will not even see its running/have to do anything. It does exactly what I need in preparation for the BSA audit.
from prompt run aida32.exe /? to see what else you can do.
I hope that helps, good luck!
Damn usefull freeware! Good Find!
/Prods Mobydick with big stick to add to Software sticky
Cheers will give it a go later this week.
Just to say, I activated the script friday, ready for the monday morning login...
