Question Folding Nodes and Linux SMP

Can anyone point in the direction of a easy to follow guide to installing a linux distro (ubuntu 8.04 desktop) and the F&H client in vmware server as I can use our work server to run it.

Also, I've seen this done before, but cannot find the info, I may be able to get my hands on six motherboards, installed with a p4 2.8ghz and 512mb, was wondering is it would be possible to stack them in tower, power them and use them for multiple processing?

Re: Folding Nodes and Linux SMP

    1) install 64-bit distro. frankly, this is painfully easy these days. at least as easy as vista, light years ahead of xp.

    2) download smp client from Folding@home - Download the Folding@home software application and extract to home area

    3) open a terminal (applications/accessories/terminal)

    4) type "./fah6 -smp"

done. want anything like a snazzy manager app, try reading https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FoldingAtHome

as for clustering... fah should support it, but doesn't (it's written as a clustered app, but will fail unless all four instances of the "smp" version are run on the same computer)

you can install a distro on the 6 boards and use a multitude of nice apps to manage non-smp clients though. remember smp fah is 64-bit-only on linux
