    AMD drivers

I have just installed a AMD X2 3800 processor and I need to get hold of the driver for it. Does anyone know where to download them from? I have tried AMD's website but haven't been able to find any.

    Re: AMD drivers

Processor driver?.. your CPU drives your OS, not the other way around. If you're looking for microcode updates, they come through Windows updates automatically, and special microcode bootstrap corrections are usually applied through BIOS updates.

    Question Re: AMD drivers

There's no such thing as a CPU "driver"
CPU's are automatically recognised by the OS, and have never required "drivers" - in the sense of (i.e.) graphics drivers, sound card drivers etc?

So other than a CPU 'optimisation' utility - such as the one second from bottom in Madduck's link there, it's not at all obvious what it is you're after?

    Re: AMD drivers

My mistake, I am having issues with my processor not being recognised by my system which I thought was due to a lack of drivers. However further research has show it may be my bios or motherboard (nforce4).

The basic problem is that I upgraded from my AMD 939 Pin 3500 to a 939 Pin dual core AMD X2 3800 which the system does not recognise and also only seems to be using 1 core.

My thoughts are that its to do with the bios which may be out of date.

    Any ideas?

    Re: AMD drivers

I don't use dual core with Windows OS, but IIRC from other threads, there is a setting in control panel which allows you to select a mode of operatin with dula cores - however those with more knowledge than I may be able to clarify what and where. (I think it may be under system, device manager.

A search through Hexus with something like Windows dula core may find something. Sorry I can't be more explicit.

Try right-clicking on My Computer icon -> Manage -> System Tools -> Device Manager -> Computer. It should say Uniprocessor something. Right-click on it -> Properties and Uninstall this device. Reboot the system and see if it'll help - Windows should detect the CPU and re-organize HAL.

    It's a known problem when upgrading single-core to multi-core CPU w/o OS re-install.
