Good riddance. Wish I'd done it about a year ago.

    Re: what av...

I switched form AVG to Avast! then back to AVG and then back to Avast! again several times over the years. Of the two I much prefer Avast! but I recommend switching off the audio alerts.

Yeah Avast is a quality free av. Once you turn the really, really annoying sounding Yank audio alerts off.

    Re: what av...

using avast now... just booted from installing and removing avg... haven't touched any settings or anything yet... anything you'd recommend and where abouts do I do this in the control panel etc on avast...
also avira??? is this better than avast? is it worth trying now that avast's installed or should I just leave avast and carry on...
never really had virus problems with avg so it was just there if that makes sense... so how do I know it's doing its job really? I guess it just is right if I don't have hassle and windows screwing up?

    Re: what av...

    hello keef247,
i would stick with avast if i was you it is free and protects against all the malware spectrum .
avira free version wont detect spyware and adware,it has a nag screen and even the paid versions cannot remove already infected computers. apparently its because there corporate customers dont have any interest with removing malware from already infected machines or something like that.
if someone wants a free av i reccomend avast. if you dont mind paying i would reccomend drweb or kaspersky. both fantastic at what they do.

    Re: what av...

    Avira for me.

Zone Alarm died a death some time ago - memory hogging and all manner of install and conflict issues.

AVG has become a whopping resource hog.

Avira is pretty cool and worth the £11 or so quid I paid for the premium version since the pop up on the freebie irritates too much.
