    Question WinXP UMPC hdd limitations?

"Ill take one with a dual core atom, 2 GBs of RAM and a 320 GB HDD "

Too bad we can't have more than 80GB with WinXP - Microsoft made that part of the limitations for licensing XP for UMPC's.

But a Linux version could have more."

about to get a msi wind and put my 320gb sata in place of the 80gb stock sata... but this sounds abit bs to me but thought i'd check as I'll be getting the winxp home version...
    cheers

Good riddance. Wish I'd done it about a year ago.

There'll be no way of them limiting it through anything more than the license, and while most are against abusing licences on this forum (myself included), I can't see too many kicking up a fuss about this one.

If there is a limitation through the supplied restore disk (if there is one), then just use an existing disk you have.

It'll be an OEM limitation, not an end-user one I'd imagine.

I'm surprised the Wind comes with a 2.5" drive.

I would have thought it would be 1.8"

THis actually makes it more tempting

    Re: WinXP UMPC hdd limitations?

An 80Gb limit could be hard coded into the bios, limiting the addressing range. That would probably be less of a problem for linux which overwrites the BIOS calls with it's own subroutines once the system has booted.

Whether or not the mfr of the hardware has done that for this application is another matter though.
