Last day to buy Windows XP Pro

Microsoft is removing Windows XP Pro from the distribution channel from tomorrow (1st July 2008), so if you've got a lot invested in Windows software that won't run under Vista, and are thinking about building a new PC in the future, you might want to grab an OEM copy while you still can. Google is your friend here, shop around and you can find a copy for £60. Obviously it won't be banned from sale tomorrow, but stocks won't be replaced once they run out.
Of course, you'll still be able to buy Vista Business or Ultimate (but not Home or Home Premium...) with a 'downgrade' option after today, but who needs the hassle? See this site for full details...

So do I. A couple of Win2K workstation licences, and a couple of Server licences. All boxed copies. For that matter, I've still got boxed versions of NT4, and even Netware 3 and 4 (unless I ditched them in a tidy-up a few weeks ago and have forgotten I did). And virtually every version of MS-DOS from 2 to 6.x, a few non-MS versions of DOS, as well as DR-DOS, Windows 2.x, 3.x, WfWG (though not ME). And more.

Because.... you never know when you might need them! (A month ago I needed a Dos 6.22 boot disk, for example)

In my case, I never know when I may need to simulate a situation for a client, for example, to test a configuration. Though, I must admit, the Netware stuff is mainly there (if it still is) because I haven't got around to ditching it.

Eventually, I'll ditch it. Probably when I've tripped over the box once too often.

Alternatively, get onto your software vendor and ask some very pointed questions as to WHY their software isn't ready when they've had access to Vista for at least 2 years now!! There really is no excuse why enterprise level software shouldn't be Vista compatable by now!

Very good point this. The beta's were available over 2 years ago So they had plenty of time. Ass whoopings for those with lame excuses

    Hello GoNz0,
windows ME was a home operating system to fill the gap between 98 and xp.
vista is a operating system for home and business so due to it being used by business the issues should be fixed.
service pack 1 fixed most issues. it mostly works now.
    @ Saracen,
i have oem windows 95 still installed on original machine. booted it up a few weeks ago.
i do unfortunately have windows ME i was stuck with it as my main pc OS for years=(
reinsrtalled in recently on my old pc just for fun. worst OS EVER.
    i also have win 98.
if windows live messenger and a few other apps worked on win2k i wouldnt of bothered buying vista.
it was eiether vista or xp so i took the gamble and its slowly paying off. its getting better.
