Windows XP Pro

I need a copy of windows xp pro and i've seen them on E-Bay for as little as a fiver. However, all of the cheaper ones are specific to a certain type of machine such as Dell, or Fujitsu. Can these versions be used on any system?
If so do I need a key changer/finder aswell?
PLEASE GUIDE ME THROUGH THE PITFALLS OF THIS TYPE OF PURCHASE AND INCLUDE ANY USEFUL INFORMATION.

biggest advice is don't buy an illegal copy of windows, obviously if a keygen etc is required your purchase is not going to be a legal liscenced copy of windows.

if you want a free os go linux.

ye i'm not too bothered about a liscenced copy so long as it's the full working version...
