    thanks in advance for responses
I've just installed Kapersky to replace Macafee which was continually causing problen with Outlook.

I use egg.com account manager which provides access to numerous bank accounts using a 'safe' on the pc. All my details have now disappeared and I cannot even enter new ons - 'error on page'. I have not yet had a reply fromegg.com

If you open Kaspersky and go to the protection -> Web Anti-Virus and then either click configure then untick the enable, or click the stop or pause options.
See if that gets Egg working again.

I believe the reports for that or proactive defense should indicate if it is interfering with Egg but as i don't use Money Manager myself i haven't come across this problem.

Re: best free anti virus software?

Is there another free Antivirus available other than AVG? I've had no luck with AVG 8 as the update manager is totally corrupted and every time I boot up I get a message from AVG telling me to restart to update the database. This is becoming a real pain now as whenever there is an update it always asks for a restart. I had to do a recent Windows update for SP3 and that seemed to mess up the AVG. I've tried re-installing AVG but the same thing happens.

I'm totally open to suggestions for another antivirus as I've lost confidence in AVG at the moment!

If you want free, avast is very good.. But you can get kaspersky oem of scan when you purchase some hardware.. I think a 3 user licence is around £10 you can't really go wrong now 2009 is out.. I love the new verision, i was always a nod32 fan due to the speed but now kaspersky has it for me..

Re: best free anti virus software?

thanks, ive managed to scrounge a mcafee licence off my parents, who had a 3 pc licence for 2 pcs. When this runs out, ill probably get kaspersky. Ive read good things about it and its only £10 for 3 PCs for a year!

not mCafee... avast! is better than mcafee!!! and avast! is free!

    mcafee's just above norton....

and avast! has a smaller footprint aswell...

    IMHO... yes...

mcafee has quite a large resource footprint when compared to running avast! and comodo..

also mcafee flagged up more false positives than any other AV i've ever used (i wouldn't mind... but it also let the highest concentration of viruses (compared to other AV's) thorugh on me aswell )

the last time i used it was about a year ago and i had it for about a month, and then got sick of it and installed AVG, then i tried avast! and haven't looked back...

Re: best free anti virus software?

I agree with TakTAk, McCafee is not worth it aswell as a hogger!
Kapersky and Nod are the way to go for the best paid versions.

Avast and Avira are the best free Av's and both have their followers, so it is down to you to decide

Never had a problem with AVG myself but I'm still on 7.5... might give Avast a go given the recommendations

Re: best free anti virus software?

Im using AVG free 8 and it seems fine to me, i have disabled the daily virus scan though as with all the data i have stored it takes about 1.5 hours to complete and i dont think its necessary to scan everyday, after all its supposed to stop the virus getting into your system in the first place. I have it set to scan once a week but it does download the updates everyday although that only takes seconds.
