The subjects were put on video, asked about their Vista impressions, and then shown a "new" operating system, code-named Mojave. More than 90 percent gave positive feedback on what they saw. Then they were told that "Mojave" was actually Windows Vista."

And yes, I do believe Vista is better than XP. Period.

Just goes to show though that all the vista hating is from bad word of mouth and slag fests on the net thats pushing vista as a bad os. I was gonna stick with XP then got the new shuttle with x64 Vista Ultimate and never looked back. It's a lot more stable than XP ever was for me

It's fashionable to hate Vista. Or so it was. Now the cool kids are pro-Vista.

Yeah I only stayed clear of vista as the old p4 rig was slow as hell on it but this new system it flies Only issue I have had with vista is a lack of drivers for the nintendo/buffalo usb wifi dongle only works in vista 32bit but I can live without it. Just plug it into the tablet pc and away I go.

I didnt like it because to me it felt like it was rushed out, bloated and wasn't compatible with my other stuff, yes this might have been down to driver issues etc but I still went back to XP, my new Shuttle has Vista Home Premium on it and there are bits about that I dont like as the MCE side of things is a bit screwed up imho as to how it lays things out.

im with you Dangel, Vista is far better than XP, as long as your system has the right specs, basically 2gb+ ram and a dual core cpu, there isn't really a reason why you shouldn't switch.

Yes there issues when it was released with compatibility etc... but when is there never an issue on release?

If am honest, I love the look of vista with all its fancy graphics stuff but I don't like using it, I don't know why, I just do.

I have however, got a copy of Vista Ultimate, from Microsoft for attending an event in Manchester not so long ago, I think the next time I format my system I may give it a proper chance.

However, for me, there is no reason to switch either. There is nothing I currently do that I can't do on XP, and there isn't anything I see myself needing to do in the near future to motivate me to change.

However, for me, there is no reason to switch either. There is nothing I currently do that I can't do on XP, and there isn't anything I see myself needing to do in the near future to motivate me to change.

Right there is a reason not to switch ..... it'll cost you for something you don't need, or apparently want.

And another reason is that some of us have hardware or so old as to have doubtful driver compatibility, and aren't prepared to spend ages making sure of drivers etc for no real gain. And another reason is to maintain consistency with other systems owned. And another is older or low-spec hardware.

There are plenty of reasons not to switch, depending on your circumstances.

For me, Vista offers little or no benefit, and would cost a lot to adopt. That is reason enough. If others like Vista and want it for that reason alone, great - it's their money. Or if it gives them a benefit. Great, go for it.

But, for me, regardless of the pro-Vista brigade proselytizing on and on about it, it offers nothing to justify switching, and there are several good reasons not to.

They were 'shown' it were they? I've no doubt that in the right (perhaps majority of) circumstances Vista will look quite superior to XP. It's the little fiddly ones (which are not always MS's fault) that you don't see every day that concern me.

And with both of us being avid Linux users, that says something in Microsoft's favour. That said, I still wouldn't put my hand down my pockets for it when I can have something better still for £0.00.

in the same vein, i would absolutely encourage someone to install IE7 if it meant they stopped using IE6

firefox or opera might still be better, but damnit, it's better than nothing

Seeing Vista or whatever they want to call it while tricking users into thinking its something else is completely different to using it on a day to day basis, I had it on my main pc (spec over <----) and I tried to ignore the fact that things were in different places etc etc and tried to like it, the slow performance issues and random copy speeds were enough to make me switch back, I even waited until Sp1 was out and that still didnt fix it.

To me Vista is bigger and bloatier than it needs to be.
There are stupid random copy issues where files copy from my hard drive to USB stick at a few hundred Kbps.
However as said I have it on my Shuttle and thats ok with it if you can get round the new menu layout, I also have it here at work on my work PC and for work its fine, as long as I dont want to copy things too and from the network or USB sticks...

I've pretty much been using it fulltime at work since the latter half of 2006 - when the betas started to get good. The first public beta was ropey - and a mistake IMHO to release 'publically' - and the immediately following (non-public) builds were darn good (for a beta OS, esp. from MS).

Of course, real men run Vista x64.
