    Damn this fine weather!

I've had to turn off one SMP on my new toy as everything's been getting a little warm

Standard case fans and retail CPU cooler on the 9450 had 64deg CPU and 45deg mboard.
Borrowed a couple of Antec 120mm fans from work (30dBA / 79cfm / 2000rpm) we've bought to cool a cupboard and got the mboard down to 40deg but not good enough.

Now with just one SMP running we're cooking at 53deg CPU which is much better. Only problem now is the noise of the new fans (was near slient before)!

Need to find some relatively good cfm sub-20dBA fans. Also reckon a fan controller as the fan headers on the mboard are giving odd rpms to the two fans I added.

Anyone use these Akasa 120mm fans?
They're rated at 18dBA / 49.74cfm / 1400rpm which seems about right and are bargaintastic at £4.69 each

Also advice on a 4-fan controller for a 3.5" bay - preferably in black would be appreciated

    Re: Damn this fine weather!

i don't know of m/any 3.25" controllers that can handle 4 fans... but what about THIS or THIS or THIS coupled with some thing like THIS or THIS

and for cheap/quiet/good cfm fans have a look at yate loons and nexus'

but i know what you mean about the heat... my MOBO's currently @ 51c, proccy @ 51c Fans @ 959RPM (usually both proccy fans are @ 600RPM), GFX @ 71c all fullyloaded with F@H, and there is a significant noise increase due to my PSU ramping up it's fan to full speed and the PSU is at the front of the case (PSU fan is almost blocked off )

edit: keeps coming accross THESE on my travels, and if they live up to their claims then they are more than impressive...

    Re: Damn this fine weather!

I hadn't realised fan controllers take up quite so much space!
Thanks for all the suggestions. I'd use the Zalman controllers for cheap and nasty but my cabling is already somewhat questionable so adding a stack of teeny boxes around the case would make the cooling worse I suspect

Looking at my case again I think I'll need more than 3 fans controlled.
The 6-way Zalman is an obvious choice. More thinking needed ...

Meanwhile all those SilenX fans are stunning for dBA vs cfm. Like you I'm somewhat skeptical though as they seem soooo far ahead of the opposition. Still 1 of them at £15 vs 3 Akasa's - I guess it's all a question of air-flow!
