how do i get the SMP client running 100% on both cores?

i affixed

-deino -smp 2

to the shortcut but the client keeps ending in:

but launching without the modif shortcut doesn't use 100%

this is on SMP 6.22 for Deino MPI...

i've got the new GPU client up and running again but the SMP is being a pain and won't do anything .

anyone got any ideas?

i've got rid of the 'client_died' but i still can't get it to use 100% (even with the -smp -deino)

it's currently @ ~85% on both cores...

sorted it

i downloaded the MPICH client and sacrificed the current WU to get it working...

so i got this one running multi proccy with the -smp flag, otherwise it just acts as a uniprocessor one

kept saying work couldn't be used with variable processor...

but it's working perfectly now (well.. it seems to be... i need to check that it actually progresses through the work...)

yep, I opted for the MPICH client off the bat, and added -smp too, working fine.

The instructions and "beta-ness" of the deino MPI put me off.

how do you make it run -smp?

create a shortcut to the file on your desktop

at the end of the shortcut path (i.e.: 'E:\Users\TAKTAK\Desktop\test\fah.exe')

put ' -smp' so it appears as: E:\Users\TAKTAK\Desktop\test\fah.exe -smp

then when you start F@H (using the shortcut) it will state how many cores have been detected and get to work

etc, etc.

MPICH is just a different version of that... i think it's just the protocol that it runs on, and the other new beta version runs on denio.. (well thats what i think anyway... i could well be wrong )

to get both running on the MPICH client you need to run it using the -SMP flag affixed to the end of the shortcut, otherwise it will just act in uniprocessor mode

For those of you, like me, who ran two 5.91 SMP clients and Affinity Changer small alterations are required to continue doing so with 6.22 SMP clients.

6.22 introduces its own affinity management which clashes with Affinity Changer. This prevents two clients running simultaniously.
If you want to run Affinity Changer switch off the new feature in the advanced options of the client config.

Also in advanced options you can specify run parameters like -smp if you don't want to do it using a shortcut.

To get to the advanced options run create a shortcut to the FAH executable and edit the shortcut target with -configonly.
When you run the shortcut you will get the usual options, one of which is to alter the advanced settings.
Example: Edit the shortcut Target to:

"C:\Program Files\<<FAH Directory>>\fah.exe" -configonly

Remember the configonly shortcut will only run the config and will not restart the client.


If you want to run the 6.22 client in SMP mode without altering the advanced configuration create a shortcut to the program executable and alter the Target properties as follows:

"C:\Program Files\<<FAH Directory>>\fah.exe" -smp

Also if you set -smp in the advanced options of the client then the shortcut to run the client does not need -smp in the Target properties.

I had to do a full uninstall of FAH, and delete the FAH folder, then do a fresh install of the MPICH client to get this working properly. I think this was necessary because these new clients use a passkey as part of the username/team setup options.

I've updated the main instructions (see sig) to include SMP, MPICH, and Passkey details.

the mpich smp client kept failing for me, so I'm now using the deino smp client and it's running fine!

Both clients are now failing for me. I had it running over the weekend fine, and this morning it kicks off saying MISSING_WORK_FILES, tried fresh installs etc and nothing is working so I am out for now until I can be bothered to get the old client up and running again.

The deino smp client works fine and completes units - but only uses about 55 - 59&#37; CPU total (spread across 4 cores). Talk about rubbish smp clients
