best antivirus?

Well ive currently got avg free edition but that seems to be currupt with the updating now(how ) so i was wondering what anti virus is the best, price is not an object but i hear good things about kapersky but after trialing it i didnt like it, is this different on the full version? I know people who recommend nod32 and im planning on buying it unless there are any better anti virus programs around? preferably ones with the whole thing so like firewall etc but its not a must. Currently have ad-aware pro 07 and spybot s&d along with avg8.

i use Avast! and it's never steered me wrong so far, and i've got it on 8 computers... so not bad going really

Totally forgot about that program, i tried it but i was unsure of the interface, couldnt get menus to close etc lol as it was to simple, i will try it again though, is their a pro version or just the free one? much like ad-aware do.

Nod32 hands down... =]
Has a low memory footprint / uses few resources, is non-intrusive, decent speed, and has a high "honest" detection rate...
...maybe the best one out there ...Luv it.

Easily NOD32, but I'd recommend going fro the full Eset Smart Security as it's really good.

Well i downloaded the trial for avast pro and it was good till i was told it needs rebooting, everytime it updates which is annoying. Currently my comptuer is dieing after uninstalling avg so goto sort that out first, will buy nod32 as far as i can tell its doing the best with the least resources, very easy to use aswell for example to turn the firewall off you just click setting and turn off lol(how easy?).

I know there is never going to be the Best but i was looking for one with the detection rate and less resource hogs, so far nod32 seems the best because it uses hardlhy any ram and does detect alot. Never got on with kapersky but now i have been given nod32 by a mate of mine so ill stick with this /.

Hmm, it sounds like you have a few other problems there, Hicks. AVG is the program that I used long-term before moving to my current choice (Avast) and I can't say that its removal caused any troubles later on. Did AVG uninstall okay and did you reboot before running other installation(s)? Also, is all well with your hardware? N.B. I'm not looking to instil fear, just eliminate the possibilities!

In relation to Avast, I've used it for a few years and a reboot isn't the norm. Reboots after updates are typically months apart. Unless the Pro version behaves differently, that sounds like the program is updating every time. With the free version, a green pop-up will appear for the availability of a program update, with the more common signature update signified by a blue pop-up. Resource-wise, I can't remember if I used it on my PII system but it has certainly been okay left running in the background on my Athlon 2500+ box throughout the years since I stuck its bits together.

nod32 is a very good av but no one program can detect everything.
btw you also may want to complement that with the followingsuperantispyware free
its an on demand scanner with bultin updators
if you have the money i would sergest buying superantispyware pro which has realtime protection to prevent malware from installing in the first place. works great along side nod32.

thanks guys, recovered from the major fault (dont know what it was) but it ment i neded to format all my stuff >.<, cant access any ide drives and no idea why but atleast i wont have any viruses lol.

I am not sure which is the best antivirus software, but I can tell you how to get a Norton Internet Scurity 2008 for less than a fiver.

I bought a Norton Internet Security 2006 from PC World for 97p (which are selling about £2 + postage on ebay commonly), it comes with a one year subscription. After you registed on the Norton website it will offers you for a free upgrade to Norton 2008 Internet Security (I think the reason is 2006 and 2007 don't support Win Vista so they discontinued them and offers a free upgrade even you don't have Win Vista).

I think Norton provides a good antivirus (correct me if I am wrong), and the Norton Internet Security is retails at £20 - 30 at the market, for less than a fiver I would say it is a bargain.

Thanks for posting but from past experience(2006 pro) and reviews etc iam saying clear of norton because it uses alot of resources and doesnt pick up half as many viruses as AVG free has for me, another annoying point is that it sticks itself to your computer and takes alot of effort to get it off(eset offer tools ). Nod32 was rated one of the best and so will stick with it as ive had no problems yet, got zone alarm forcefield for free yesturday on offer so that helps with spywaqre etc.

I use Trend Internet security 2008 on 3 pc's and never had any issues with it or 2007 version other than had to patch 2008 to get it to work with Vista
