Now that I have 4GB ram, I want to upgrade to a 64bit OS, namely Vista.
Is there anyway to do this without having to reinstall all my programs and settings, I've got my system pretty nicely set as it is. ( I have a 90GB partition for my OS)

nein...
you need a re-install
you can't upgrade a 32bit OS to a 64bit OS (no matter how hard you try)
i reccomend running a dual boot for a while, just so you can get things up and running and then just transfer over to 64bit
No way to backup settings and things and 'impose' them into the new OS
Damn.
Nope - because as well as installing various files to the Windows folder, each program you install adds a number of registry entries as well.
Even imaging the drive, and backing up/copying over the registry wouldn't work, unfortunately... especially not when you're going from a 32bit > 64bit OS![]()
I would also recommend if you have add on cards like soundcards etc remove them before installing vista and once basic installation is done start adding them on one at a time. Have found this way more reliable and stress free.
Nope - because all your 32bit software will run via the WOW64 emulation layer which does both file and registry redirection. 32bit programs live in "Program File (x86)" on x64, have their own registry branches and even get redirected when calling on the system directory.
Just reinstall, it's nowhere near as big a task thesedays anyway.
