    4870 + quad core

Well, I just got myself a 4870 + vista 64bit ultimate in the last few days. Whats the best way to utilise this?

Downloading GPU2 client atm, also have a Q6600 in this PC to put to use however I don't recall any options in the SMP client to just use 3 cores. Any pointers?

The cli app gives you the option to limit the CPU core usage iirc. The GPU2 client uses about half the CPU time across all four cores anyway, and it's fast enough to make the SMP client irrelivant anyway. I wouldn't bother running both on the same machine.

Well, it seems as though the SMP has little impact on the pace of the GPU client/ Il experiment and find out which is most ppd.

    Re: 4870 + quad core

I think you'll get more use out of the SMP rather than the GPU. That's certainly been the case in the past.

Is that just an ATI thing as the nVidia (or certainly mine) uses no where near that thankfully.

Might be an ATi thing, I haven't tried using an nVidia GPU with the GPU2 client. It seriously chews through WUs though, makes my PS3 look like fail. :|

    Re: 4870 + quad core

Well, seem to be running both quite sucesfully and SMP seems about the same speed as before at around 16 or 18 hours a WU.

same... my GPU2 clent seems to just leave the cpu alone... so i run SMP on full and GPU2...

    Re: 4870 + quad core

I'm using an identical set-up and generally find that I get a better ppd (as per FahMon) if I set the GPU2 client to one core and then the SMP to the remaining 3 by changing the core affinities.

G4Z, have you overclocked your Q6600? I've got mine at a very stable 3.3Ghz and will be pushing for more just as soon as I fit a NB and Mosfet blocks for my w/c loop. The benefits aren't earth-shattering over stock but every little helps, right?
