    KIS User License Question

I rebuilt my PC over the weekend and been reinstalling stuff slowly over the past couple of days. All the parts are the same with except for the HDDs where I have decided to use a 750GB Samsung SATA HDD over the old PATA 120 Maxtor drive. No particular reason other than Windows XP became quite corrupt and needed repair/re-installation (to the point of random reboots).

I have a 3 user license version of KIS, one is on my sister's laptop and one on my PC and one free for when my laptop arrives.

I'm just wondering, because I have reinstalled and re-used the activation key on the new HDD, have I just consumed all 3 user licenses by accident? If I have, is there anyway of rescuing the user license from my old HDD?

    Thanks in Advance

excellent question. however, as a kaspersky customer, you should feel confident in emailing their support people for help, if need be.

    Re: KIS User License Question

If it's a full retail version, it certainly shouldn't be a problem. I use K-AV rather than K-IS and the licence there relates to it being "in use" on a given machine, i.e. installed on the hard drive or loaded into memory. It doesn't quite say it outright but I can see nothing in that licence that prevents you installing/using on another machine altogether, provided you remove from the first machine before you do.

However, that is a boxed retail version. Your mileage may vary for an OEM copy, if it is. But even if it does, i can't see how any company could contend that reinstalling on the same PC but with an upgraded HD wasn't a valid use of the licence. If they did, they'd rightly lose an awful lot of customers. And Kaspersky don't strike me as at all oriented that way. Far from it.

So I can't imagine you'll have a problem, but directhex is right, email support and ask. It's the best way to be sure.

Kaspersky's e-mail support is also fantastic, they normally get back to you the same day.

My dad had this issue a while back, they had no problems in letting him re-activate it again.

    Re: KIS User License Question

Before I got my 3 user version courtesy of Barclays, I was running off a single user OEM copy of IS, that got re-installed several times during rig-rebuilds/upgrades/repairs etc, and never once did I have any problems, with regards to wether its now eaten your 3rd licence as stated give em an email, they seem pretty hot on customer service
