Private network mirror backup

I'm currently using Carbonite (reasonably good so far if anyones interested) to backup my laptop files online. However given Carbonite's lack of easy customisation and visibility over what it does and doesn't back up and also like to back up files to my Desktop machine on my network.

Is there any Vista compatible software out there which can do this? Can Vista itself do this?

If you are just after a basic copy, then something like Microsoft SyncToy Powertoy, and a network share should suffice.

Well id like something to sit in the background that will automatically ensure the backup mirrors the local copy. I'll have a play active sync, cheers. Any other suggestions appreciated.
