    Windows MCE sound anomolies.

    Folks,

I've got a bit of an issue which has just arisen which is making me scratch my head and chin with bemusement at the moment.

The issue is that I load windows and things are all find and dandy in regards to everything running and working fine. If I leave the system for about 10-20 minutes like I occasionally do while doing other things like making lunch, getting a break and having a break, when I come back to the system, no application which uses audio will work as I get an error message saying there is no valid mixer device within the system yet windows is making the error message noise in the background.

Specs of the rig are in my system over on the left hand side. The soundcard is an X-Fi xtreme music edition.

Maybe it's time for a reinstall as the installation is over 2 years old

Hmm, sounds like some Creative Driver issues here!

i take it your on the latest versions?

It could be possible that its trying to suspend the DSP to save power (would make sense if they could do it, don't know if they do) then having problems bringing everything back up!

So the classic play with everything to do with power management until you get lucky might also be a viable option!

Nope - I'm still on the release drivers that came on the CD - I don't want to start to loose functions now do I?

There is no power-saving options at all with the PC - everything is adjusted so it's on 24/7 so it's not even powering down and going into a state where it's saving power.

I do feel that could be IE8 related as I downloaded IE8 and installed it for testing a few things.

Anyway, I've decided that windows needs a good reinstall anyway so guess it's hunt the windows discs tonight when I get home as I'm going to upgrade the windows boot drive from an 80 Gb SATA 150 to a 500 Gb SATA 300 drive.

most odd, i've not looked at IE8 myself, but wouldn't of thought it would of interfered with sound device drivers!

oh well if your going to blitz it, we will never know this mystery!
