I'm fed up for foreign Google!

Google in it's infinite wisdom wants to be clever and give me local results, based on my location. As I'm not a French resident, only a visitor, I'm not too fussed about the French results.

Any way to stop it defaulting to google.fr for searches (made using Firefox search facility)? Visiting www.google.com just redirects to .fr and I have to tick 'Results for rest of the world' to get any decent hits!

    Tried www.google.co.uk ?

First time going there, it's in my native language, when pressing "Page supported by: English" it re-directed me to the UK google, ever since it always showed up as an English page.

Re: I'm fed up for foreign Google!

When I was a centralpoint broadband customer (and when they were taken over), my google was always german, along with all ads I could see. This was even though I was based in the UK. The reason why I had everything in german was because Centralpoint was going through Telefonica.de's servers, so Google, etc, thought I was in Germany. Last week, I used my laptop on a Stena Line ferry via their onboard internet service. Google then switched to google.no, and all ads were in Norwegian!

Re: I'm fed up for foreign Google!

I have this problem right now, my internet is being routed through Germany from a satellite connection.

Changed Operas settings to use google.co.uk and all is fine now.

What is more annoying is sties that inexplicably block you when you are not in the UK (*caugh*morecomputers.com*cough*)

    try going to http://www.google.com/webhp
or clicking "to google" in the bottom right. If cookies are enabled, it should no longer revert.

To get Google UK without having cookies on, I've made up some wibbles and use them as default. I usually use Yahoo, but here's the Google one (Safe Search off and results in English from any time in this one, but I have one limited to the last 12 months)
