What about those of us using Win2k?

Looks like I've got something similar. Can't copy/paste, search, view Program Files or WinNT, but the machine stays up.

I can download and the machine doesn't shut down, but I can't get to a patch since I can't get use pull down menus on the Windows Update pages etc.

Could someone provide a link to a Win2k patch please? Thanks

FOund a 2k patch. Worked for me:

    http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...80-x86-ENU.exe

    Right Click, Save as.

Should work for you. If you can't do that, goto MS main homepage, goto download centre and it's one of the most 5 popular downloads - security patch for Win2k. Sorted.

Work was absolute hell tonight. Half of england called FS support over this tonight. And yea, I came home to find my machine down too. Funny how once upon a time you install all patches, but after an OS reinstall, you simply couldnt be arsed with the multitude of ones to do after SP1
    (roll on SP2 please!)

You can abort the shutdown by opening a Dos prompt and typing "shutdown -a" so 56Kers have as much time as they need.

Whilst the threads state all MS OS's are vulnerable, I only got XP customers affected today.

All OSs are open to the threat though the symptoms differ. With 2k for example you'll find that copy paste doesn't work, you can't search for files, clicking net links doesn't work, you can't view program files and your windows folder etc. It doesn't auto reboot.

    Keep an eye out..

There should be. The security vulnerability affects winME too, its just this particular virus doesnt target the older versions of windows - perhaps they thought peeps may consider buying a newer version of BillyG if their old system has been hit?
