for the past two weeks i have been getting repeated updates for windows all under the same name (see title). despite me having installed it 4 or 5 times, it still insists on telling me that i need to update to what i already have..
describes itself as a patch that prevents an attacker from gaining total control of my pc by locally accessing it, if that helps.
it doesnt seem essential, so if there isnt any other way, can i just tell windows to skip it?

have a look at the windows update history (on the page when you open windows update) and see if the installation has failed repeatedly.
Then track down the standalone installer for the patch, will be available from http://support.microsoft.com/

I believe there was a particular update prone to the bug of not installing properly. Perhaps that is the one.
