Well GPU2 should work in theory. Some info here: http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=4440
You might get 1000 PPD? Don't really know much about the ATI GPU folding, but I'm fairly sure it'll be better than the SMP client, plus you'll be able to use the CPU for other normal work.
I have the GPU2 folding on my desktop(see specs in my system), and the HD 4850 is only getting about 1000ppd (on all day running firefox, itunes, and word), turn it off at night though (antec 900 in bedroom). Should i be getting more??
My 3870 generates 550 points on the GPU2 client every 5.5 hours, I would expect the 4850 to be beating this by some considerable margin.
Load GPUZ and see if it is utilising the full potential of the card ie GPU activity is 99% and also check that the clocks are running at the 3d speeds rather than 2d speeds assuming your model has different clocks for these states, my 3870 doesn't so I can't check on mine.
GPUz states that it is using all the GPU, and that it is running at 3D speeds. Though i am quite often heavily multi-tasking, so this could cause it (and it is only on about 5 hours a day)so about 1000points ok really.
Laptop has broked anyway. Lasted 2 days, then the bag's strap snapped, and it fell onto the floor. Going to see what dell can do about it, and call the insurance
.
yeah sounds like your getting the right points then, shame about the laptopgood luck getting it sorted
I am sure that it will be fine. Though i dont think that i will fold with it, as when it worked, it was folding for about 4 hours, and got about 500 out of 5000 done!!
Laptop BACK. Yay. Is it worth folding on it though??
I'm folding on my core2duo laptop - just using the single core version with cpu % down to 90% so as to keep it relatively cool as I don't want the fan running full pelt.
