When viewing a folder, tap alt once - the menu bar appears. You can go to tools->folder options as per XP to set things up how you like.

Yea, it still forgets the settings.

I've applied the details view to all folders using that tab many times since I got vista.

    Re: Vista annoyance..

If it's anything like XP there is an upper-limit to the number of folders that it will save the configuration of, and from what I can remember some pretty arbitrary rules for which folders it would 'lose' the settings for first.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

I was just about to post this in my other thread.

All my folder options seem to have been forgotten today. No idea how its happened.

    Re: Vista annoyance..

Found some guides that might help:

    http://mypchell.com/content/view/15/1/
    http://dotnetwizard.net/vista-stuff/...tings-like-xp/
    http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/70...-settings.html

I don't have Vista yet but I'd get obsessed with maintaining neatness if this kept happening. Let me know if it can be fixed!

    Re: Vista annoyance..

what I do is go to the root of each of my drives. I set the icon size using the view button, and set other custom options like sort by type, auto arrange and auto align then click the toolbar -> Tools -> Folder Options and click the view tab and then click Apply to all Folders and then I click apply and it's done. It doesn't overwrite custom template folders like My Pictures or My Music but it's working for me.
