Help!!! EEE PC disk space issues (Windows is stealing my disk!)

Ok, got a 901 this week and thought it was nice..

Thought I'd do a system update and ended up losing literally all my 4GB C: drive..

Then I thought.. ok, I'll remove Star Office and Works since I don't use them anyways..

But to my surprise, the programs are gone but I havent reclaimed my disk space!!!

    Arrghh.. I am royally pissed..

I've disabled System Restore, Page file and I still can't reclaim that 800MB (Star Office) and 400MB (Works)!!

Any fixes would be greatly appreciated!
    Me want Ultrabook

That's odd have you checked the program files directory to make sure it was deleted?

Also any idea which drive star office was on? it might of been on the 2nd SSD ( D: )

+what you've probably done is downloaded all of sp3, which isn't needed, you need to go through windows updates yourself so you only get the stuff you need that will effect the eee pc.
I'm sure there's stuff about it on the eeewiki and also check out http://forum.eeeuser.com/ I've found that forum very useful for trying to figure out stuff to do with my 901

I've got the linux version and I need to keep the os original as possible atm so I've not been able to put xp on it yet . . .
(I got it through work as part of a deal to show others how to us it's non-windows OS, once I figure out how I can sort out a dual boot xp is going on there, I like the xandros and it basic interface but you cannot install anything new to it without some changes&digging)

Check out TreeSize Free for a quick way of seeing which folders are taking up the most space:

Snap ! The problem is a little more fundamental perhaps - Windows reports the disk is ~full but is you add up the directory sizes they come to ~1Gb less so there should be disk space ...

As above - any help ?

run chkdisk, it can often fix file-system errors like "free space not reclaimed"

You can also clear out C:\Windows\Installer if you don't mind not being unable to uninstall patches etc. I did that on my eee to free up a lot of space (1gb or so I think).

Re: Help!!! EEE PC disk space issues (Windows is stealing my disk!)

    Hi Guys & Gals,

Yep, cleaned out all the usual sources of disk clutter ... but to my embarassment, I see that I had enabled hibernation ... which took 1Gb !

Thanks to "smargh" - TreeSize pointed me to 10 files on C (hidden files) that took up > 1Gb. Google did the rest ...

Re: Help!!! EEE PC disk space issues (Windows is stealing my disk!)

I've had similar problems with mine, keep getting the low disk space warning when I perform a windows update... thing is I have no idea what is taking up all the space. There is next to nothing on there!

Was thinking of using nlite to get the installation size down, I don't think Asus trimmed XP down as much as they could really.
