    Windows GUI/Explorer not loading

    Hi guys,
I have this problem with my computer atm, whenever I log into windows, explorer does not load at all, there is no GUI or anything, just a desktop background. I can access the task manager and run programs from there like firefox, regedit, windows media player and even counter strike lol, but loading explorer through task manager this way does not work.

I have tried doing a repair install of windows and running anti virus and anti spyware programs, although spyware and a virus was found lol, removing them did not help, I have also tried doing a checkdisk and disabling all startup items thorugh msconfig, incase of conflicts but that did not help either.

    Any suggestions?
Thanks for all the help guys!

You want my honest advice? In a situation like this you're almost always better off reinstalling. Sure, you could spend weeks trying to troubleshoot the cause of your issue (which is likely to be linked to the virus and spyware that you mentioned) but it'll be quicker and easier to just wipe and reinstall.

Agreed with Splash, but if you're desperate to avoid it, try System File Checker. Checks system files against corruption and for their originality.

You'll need to get to a command prompt within Windows somehow though.

    sfc /scannow

    You'll need your Windows DVD.
