    Screen recording application

Can anyone suggest a good screen recording application? I am looking for high quality output preferably using a good modern compression codec (e.g. h264). If it's any relevance, I am looking to recording video audio on the desktop and not in games.

    Re: Screen recording application

I used one years ago to demonstrate some software my old company wrote.

    It was this:
    http://www.deskshare.com/msr.aspx

It worked well, although it was just one that I happened to have, and I never researched them for alternatives or anything.

    Re: Screen recording application

I've used that too Only for about half an hour or so. It seemed good but took a bit more learnin'. And it does seem to be the industry standard. Pricey though.

    Re: Screen recording application

Is it possible to capture only the sound that comes from the computer (and the video) preferably without going through the microphone (so that I don't need to worry about picking up ambient noise)?

    Re: Screen recording application

Yes, you can definitely do that but I don't know which specific ones let you do it. Hopefully someone else will know.

I do know that this software is quite widespread though. Lots of companies use it to demonstrate their software. Also a lot of them have free trials that you could try. I know the names of a few like:

    http://www.instant-demo.com/features.htm
    http://www.matchware.com/EN/products...er/default.htm

and it is also even supposed to be possible for free with some free downloadable Microsoft software. Check this out:

Couldn't quite find it - but I need to capture both video and audio. Preferably bypassing the mic though.
